Sao Paulo



Older buildings in Sao Paulo, the building in the center background of the photograph above is a replica of the Empire State Building in New York City.

Praca de Se is a starting point for exploring colonial Sao Paulo.  The square is large and is dominated by the Catedral Metropolitana a huge neo-gothic structure with a crypt and a capacity for 8000.  Completed in 1954 it replaced Sao Paulo's eighteenth century cathedral.
The Patio do Colegio is a replica of the college and chapel that formed the centre of the Jesuit mission founded here by the priests Jose de Anchieta and
Manoel da Nobrega on January 25, 1554.

The Monumento as Bandeiras located at the Parque do Ibirapueras north entrance.  One of the city's most popular postcard sights, the 1953 sculpture shows a Baneirante expedition setting off, led by a Portuguese adn a native on horseback.

Museum in the Pargue do Ibirapueka and the following photo of the mural on the wall by the museums entrance.  The Museum displays Brazillian native works of art.  Cameras where not allowed inside the building.


Leaving Sao Paulo for Lins
